Mpho Sebina, Lioness Ratang nominated at Basadi in Music Awards
Botswana continues to solidify its reputation as a powerhouse of musical talent in Southern Africa, consistently producing exceptional songwriters and songstresses who craft masterpieces that resonate far and wide.
This commitment to artistry is now being celebrated on a regional stage, with two of Botswana’s phenomenal vocalists, Mpho Sebina and Lioness Ratang, earning a prestigious nomination at the 4th Annual Basadi in Music Awards in South Africa.
These awards, launched in 2022, were born from a powerful vision: to spotlight, celebrate, and elevate the incredible women making waves across the entire music industry spectrum. From singers and rappers to DJs, composers, producers, and the visionary talents working behind the scenes, the Basadi in Music Awards honor the full breadth of female excellence in the music ecosystem.
Mpho Sebina, a true “dynamite” in the industry, has left an indelible mark with her soulful voice and deeply relatable lyrics. Her discography boasts well-loved hits such as “Too Late for Mama,” “Dinaledi,” “Dikeledi,” “Motho ke Motho,” and “Dumelang.” Her collaboration with fellow Motswana artist Samantha Mogwe on the hit song “Marang” further cemented her widespread appeal.
Lioness Ratang, living up to her name, continues to “roar” with a steadily growing and impressive presence. She burst onto the South African music scene with her hit song “Nako Tsele” and has continued to dish out captivating tracks like “Call Me” and “Mwari Weh” (featuring Exclusive Drumz and Mr Brown). Her gradual growth into a well-rounded artist has taken the South African industry by storm.
Now, these two powerhouses have joined forces, and their collaboration on the song “Lioness” has earned them a coveted nomination in the “Collaboration of the Year” category at the Basadi in Music Awards.

They will be battling it out with formidable South African talents, including Cici and Liema (for “Impumelelo”), Boohle, Dee Koala, and K Mat (for “Iskhathi Sam Manje”), Nosipho, Cici, and Liema Pantsi (for “Home”), as well as Babalwa M and Yallunder (for “Mthuthuzeli”).
The 4th Annual Basadi in Music Awards will culminate in a grand ceremony at the Joburg Theatre on August 2nd, 2025, under the inspiring theme “The Symphony of Harmony.”
This significant nomination for Mpho Sebina and Lioness Ratang is a clear and resounding indication that Botswana’s music is not just participating on the regional stage; it’s going for gold. Their recognition truly embodies the spirit of “music without borders,” showcasing the boundless talent emanating from the heart of Southern Africa.
