Mmamidi, Missgeekays go head-to-head at the Glitz Awards
Gaborone’s vibrant entrepreneurial and social scene is buzzing with anticipation as two of its most dynamic figures, Tshepiso ‘Mmammidi’ Marumo and Khumo ‘Missgeekays’ Kgwaadira, go head-to-head at the upcoming 4th Annual Glitz Awards.

These powerhouse businesswomen, celebrated culinary artists, social media influencers, and vocal feminists are set to battle it out in the highly coveted Best Styled Female Social Media Influencer category. The competition is fierce, with fellow nominees Katlego Ramphaleng, Amantle Brown, and Sadi Dikgaka also vying for the title.
Mmammidi, born in Tutume, has carved out a unique and inspiring niche in Gaborone’s food landscape. Her journey began with a simple yet powerful hustle: selling mmidi (corn) on the streets of Gaborone.
This humble beginning, fueled by “hard work, obedience, and trusting the process,” blossomed into a household name and a thriving business. Today, she presides over two successful traditional cuisine food joints in Gaborone, located in Phase II and Phase IV, standing out as one of the few entrepreneurs to master this culinary space.
Her burgeoning enterprise not only serves delicious traditional fare but also empowers her community, employing over twelve individuals, predominantly women. Beyond her culinary prowess, Mmammidi is a significant social media influencer, known for her engaging and sometimes controversial posts.
Her philanthropic endeavors have garnered widespread admiration, most notably her unwavering support for the Gamodubu Trust, an organization dedicated to caring for abandoned, orphaned, and vulnerable children.
On the other side of the ring is Missgeekays, a renowned media personality whose voice has graced both radio and television. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Kana Kgang, a luxurious and popular restaurant in Gaborone West.
Missgeekays famously stepped away from her role at RB2 radio to pursue other ventures, with Kana Kgang becoming a flagship endeavor. She has since returned to RB2, hosting the weekly show “Let’s Call It Drive,” showcasing her enduring passion for media.
Beyond her restaurant, Missgeekays is a highly sought-after event host and brand influencer, having collaborated with major names like Debonairs Pizza Botswana, the Institute of Development Management (IDM), Shell, and Coca Cola.
Her restaurant, Kana Kgang, has become a hotspot for millennials and Gen Z, transforming into a vibrant hub for weekend fun and entertainment. It has hosted prominent artists like DJ Fresh and is a go-to venue for some of the country’s biggest lifestyle events.
Leveraging her influential platform, Missgeekays has also championed the growth of the content creation industry. She co-hosted the successful Content Creators Brunch at Kana Kgang with Jessica Molefe, an event that brought together content creators from TikTok to YouTube.
This gathering provided a crucial platform for sharing experiences, inspiring aspiring creators, and delving into the burgeoning business of content creation, which is quickly proving to be a multi-million-dollar industry globally.
As these two formidable women prepare to face off at the Glitz Awards, it’s clear that both Mmammidi and Missgeekays represent the epitome of modern Batswana entrepreneurship and influence. Their dedication to their crafts, their communities, and their personal brands makes this category one to watch.
