Miss Universe Botswana finalists elevate game with SA immersion

The Miss Universe Botswana 2025 finalists have embarked on an intensive nine-day international boot camp in South Africa; a strategic move aimed at transforming them into more than just beauty queens.
According to Director Safie Sekgwa, the decision to train in South Africa, an advanced economy and a nation renowned for its pageantry prowess, will equip the finalists with skills in global brand ambassadorship, diplomacy, and trade exposure.
The comprehensive boot camp curriculum includes sessions on positioning Botswana as a premier tourism destination. Working closely with diplomats and the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), the finalists are gaining invaluable insights into diplomatic protocols and trade promotion. This robust training is designed to mold them into effective advocates for their nation on an international stage.
In a groundbreaking move, the much-anticipated Miss Universe Botswana finale will be held in Francistown, affectionately known as “the Ghetto.” This historic decision has been widely celebrated as a significant step towards boosting the economy of Botswana’s second capital city. Director Sekgwa emphasized that this monumental shift aims to promote Francistown as a key destination for investment, tourism, and economic growth.
Francistown Mayor, Gaone Majere, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the Miss Universe Botswana platform as a “golden opportunity” to position the city as a Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination, ready to shine globally. “Through the Miss Universe Botswana platform, we can amplify our brand as a city of investment, tourism and opportunity. This platform celebrates women and supports their rightful place in national development,” Mayor Majere stated.
Miss Universe Botswana is dedicated to empowering young women as global ambassadors, cultivating their leadership abilities, fostering their roles as change-makers, encouraging charitable gestures, and refining their public speaking skills.
Botswana boasts a proud history in the pageant, with Mpule Kwelagobe famously crowned Miss Universe 1999 during the country’s debut. The upcoming Miss Universe Botswana will represent the nation in Thailand.
The organization firmly believes that true empowerment of women requires the active involvement and understanding of men, viewing both genders as partners with unique and complementary roles in nation-building and community development.
As part of their journey towards the finale, the Miss Universe Botswana Top 10 finalists, known as the “Shining Stars of the Universe,” have engaged in various public appearances across Botswana. These engagements have served to sharpen their public speaking skills and impart crucial knowledge on various important issues. Embracing Botswana’s rich cultural heritage, the finalists donned elegant Megagolwane and Basadi Botlhe attire during the Botswana National Museum’s International Museum Day celebration.
Their journey also included the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans Challenge, a social event featuring horseback riding, quad bike races, and entertainment, coupled with a week-long boot camp focused on personal purpose, growth, and unforgettable experiences.
Throughout this period, the finalists participated in empowering workshops, fitness sessions, and cultural explorations, all designed to foster leadership, resilience, and a deep connection to Botswana’s heritage, aligning with the Miss Universe organization’s principles of personal development and community engagement.
Demonstrating their commitment to saving lives, the finalists actively participated in blood donation drives, expressing solidarity with organizations like Blood for Life Botswana, the Ministry of Health (MoH), and the Francistown Regional Blood Transfusion Centre.
This week, the finalists also attended an informative “Know Your Ministry” workshop at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, gaining a deeper understanding of the Ministry’s role and how national infrastructure supports the country’s development.
