Loago’s journey into fashion started with a simple yet profound love for looking good and posing for the camera. “What really inspired me to be a model is the heat in my heart to always look good and pose for the camera,” he recalls. This passion led him to experiment with unique outfits and self-photography, laying the foundation for his future career.
Realizing that modeling could provide a platform to showcase new brands and designs,
Loago decided to pursue it professionally. His first official modeling assignment with Dashtrends clothing, captured by the renowned photographer Bryce, was a turning point. “That’s when I saw the capability in me,” Loago says. “The feedback I received gave me a big confidence boost.”
Building a Brand
Leveraging the confidence and experience gained from modeling, Loago took a bold step and launched his own fashion brand in Gaborone. His brand, which focuses on contemporary designs with a touch of traditional Botswana aesthetics, quickly gained attention.
“I wanted to create something that not only looked good but also told a story,” Loago explains. His collections blend modern fashion trends with local cultural elements, making each piece a unique expression of Botswana’s rich heritage.
Starting a fashion brand in Botswana has not been without its challenges. “The fashion industry here is still slow and rough.
Companies don’t always recognize the value of model brand promoter advertising,” Loago notes. Moreover, the preference for international brands over local ones adds another layer of difficulty.
Despite these challenges, Loago remains optimistic. “If we start valuing our local brands, we can see the talents of our youth being creative and influential. Modeling and fashion could level up significantly.”
Behind the scenes, Loago is a jack of all trades. “Sometimes I want to be the photographer, write scripts, initiate poses, and find the perfect scenery,” he says. This versatility is evident in his brand’s creative process, where he is involved in everything from design to marketing.
Loago’s work has not gone unnoticed. His brand has been featured in local fashion shows, and his creative photoshoots have become iconic. “Seeing my work in these publications is one of my biggest memories so far,” he shares.As Loago continues to grow his brand, he remains committed to supporting other aspiring models and designers in Botswana. “I want to create a platform where local talents can shine and be appreciated for their creativity,” he says.
